“Then the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.’” Luke 2:10-11(NKJ) Anybody seen an angel today? What did he say? God chooses to make the announcement of His Son to shepards warming their tortillas, rise and beans on the fire. Not only with the appearance of an angel, but an angel that speaks good tidings!! And tidings of great miraculous joy to all people. If anything is worth interrupting a hot fireroasted Jewish-Mexican meal is an angel showing up at dinner with an annoucement of great tidings. Faster than a microwave the angel tells the shepards the Savior is born today. I believe the shepards made their meal into burritos and headed to town to the manger. OK, this is the New Mexican Translation.

The Christmas story that Jesus gives – “a great joy which will be to all people.” I believe the best way is to display our joy in all our interrupted circumstances, good and bad. We may not enjoy the situations we find ourselves in, but we can have joy. Our joy can issue forth from the fact that Jesus came to earth as an infant, ministered, died on the cross and resurrected from the grave. He did this as a gift for all of us.

“For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11, NKJ).

It’s a gift we should give year round to everyone in this stress-filled world, because, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8, NIV).

Dear Lord, thank You for the gift of joy this Christmas season. I’m reminded that this joy is Your Son, Jesus. And I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, down in my heart. And God, I put that joy in my heart to stay!!! Amen, PJR

When you learn to trust in God, the result is a peace that passing our understanding. Yet, there are many Christians who don’t have this peace in their lives. Let’s examine why in James.

James 1:5 says, “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”

You can’t go around your whole life as a man or woman of two minds, who is constantly hesitating. That’s being uncertain and unreliable about what you think, feel, or decide. If you are driving and you come to a stop sign, there really isn’t much much of a decision that you really have to make.. STOP!! That is the way with God’s word, if is says stop, make a complete stop then proceed with caution.

A steadfast mind is necessary in order to function in God’s perfect peace.

James, chapter 5 outlines the problem of an unstable person: he’s unstable in all his ways. Do you understand that a double-minded man is not just unstable in one area, but in many areas of his life? They no longer stop at stop signs and usually end up hurting someone. Have you come across a sign with lights flashing,”accident ahead.” My first response is,”I pray they are all alright and God help them during this time.”

But, you can have a steadfast mind! Just keep your mind stayed on God and His principles, and it will produce perfect peace and victory in your life. Watch for the stop signs!!! The life you save could be yours!!!!! God Bless, PJR

Good afternoon to all of you. As I write this I am reflecting on how much all of us are really blessed. I know all of you have seen and heard of the 7.0 earthquake that devasted Haiti. I got an urgent message from our General Superintendent, George Woods, and our churches in Haiti and their members have been devasted. He has called for all our us to take a special offering this weekend to help with food, medicines and other needs that as you know are in great need. Our hearts go out to them and we will be doing that this weekend. Please be prepared to give as you can in this special offering. God Bless, PJR

Linda got this from Mary Johnson and I thought I would share it with you!

I love the scripture passage of the Beatitudes, as it reads in The Message, from Matthew 5

~ You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God…

~ You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.

~ You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are – - no more, no less..

~ You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.

~ You’re blessed when you care. At the moment of being ‘care-full’ you find yourselves cared for.

~ You’re blessed when you get your inside world – - your mind and heart – - put right. Then you can see God…

In the New King James the key scripture is Matt 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness....” that says it all. Hungering for ‘more of God, less of us’.

Great word for today!! Be Uplifted by this Faithlift!!!! PJR

Matthew 28:18-20
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (NIV)

You may ask yourself,”How much authority do I have, or really have?” The answer is, “How much authority has been given to you.” It is God given authority. Jesus makes a statement here that proceeds the great commisson. “All authority in heaven and on the earth….” Jesus made a statement that speaks affirmation and assurance to all of us. This authority gives us the green light to go, make and baptize new believers in His name. And this teaching involves obedience to His commands. This is what I call “Great Commission Authority!” WOW!! Given to me and given to all those who believe. That changes the game against the enemy. At the name of Jesus, demons tremble. But you must use it to have any value in winning the lost. You know the saying, “Use it or__________it. You fill in the blank. Walk in His authority continully. Don’t leave home without it. God Bless, PJR

P.S. He is with you ALWAYS!

I’ve made up my mind to have,”God Time” and in that time I am determined to not let the adversary defeat or take away that time. Why? I choose not to be spiritually defeated!

1 Peter 5:8-10

Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world. After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.

You need to conclude that I will must never accept spiritual defeat in my life!

It is in the spiritual battle that you and I have entered into when we accepted Christ into our hearts, we have an opportunity to take major steps forward in your spiritual life.

The truth of the matter is that the devil will attack you, yes. Dah!!

“But resist him!” Is this a new concept, NNNNOOOOO!

As you do battle with him, look what God will do for you. This is where it gets very interesting.

He will “perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.” Repeat this phrase 3 times and just let it sink in for a little while.

Martin Luther once said, “Wherever the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved.” WOW!!! Am I a man or a mouse? God says, “Your a man! (woman) of MINE!”

Whenever you sense that you are being attacked spiritually, remember that it is part of a much bigger spiritual battle that is being fought throughout the world for the glory of God.

You can not and do not accept defeat as inevitable, no matter how many times you have lost that battle before.

The Lord is assuring you today that He will enter into that battle as you make godly choices. With God before me, who can be against me….!!

See you Sunday, PJR GOD Bless!!!! Have a victorious day!!!!!!!!!! Make some, GOD TIME!

Are You Listening?

Today’s Scripture

“Listen to me, O my people, while I give you stern warnings. O Israel, if you would only listen to me! … But no, my people wouldn’t listen. … Oh, that my people would listen to me!” Psalm 81:8, 11, 13 NLT (Suggested reading: Psalm 81:8-14)

Thoughts for Today

In today’s passage, God is lamenting the fact that no one is listening. You can almost feel the sadness in his heart as he speaks these words. He pleads with his people: Please listen to me!

These words were directed toward Israel, but God wants all of his children to listen. Jesus said, “My sheep listen to my voice.” (John 10:27 NIV)

Consider this…

Have you ever been involved in a “conversation” with a person who never gives you a chance to say a word? Frustrating, isn’t it? But sadly, this is what we so often do when we pray. We do all the talking and expect God to do all the listening!

God wants us to talk to him. And he listens. The psalmist expressed it well: “He has never wandered off to do his own thing; he has been right there, listening.” (Psalm 22:24 MSG) God listens to us, and he wants us to listen to him. In our prayer time … and throughout the day.

Are you listening?

Prayer

Father, so often I am guilty of spending all my prayer time talking, never staying quiet to listen to you. Please forgive me and help me be a better listener. In Jesus’ name

Have a blessed day!! PJR

JANUARY 1

A Vision for Your Life in the New Year

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Proverbs 29:18

Adrian Rogers writes:

Helen Keller had vision even though she lost her sight at 19 months of age.

A reporter asked Miss Keller, “Is there anything worse than being blind?”

“Yes,” she said, “It is to have sight and no vision.”

Do you have a vision for your life at the threshold of a new year? On New Year’s Day, I review the goals for my life. These are spiritual, relational, intellectual, physical, and financial goals. I pray over these and ask for God’s will to be done in each one.

I hold them in an open hand and ask that God would give me wisdom as to the direction He wants for my life. I don’t want to be a person without vision. I don’t want you to be one either.

Begin to think about some goals you would like for your life. Pray and seek the Lord’s face as you ponder the future.

God bless, PJR

Well, here we are. Today is Thursday, December 31st.
The very last day of the year 2009.

And what a year it was. Look what the Lord has done!!! All because many of you all have remained faithful to the calling God has given you.

…New Beginnings for many of you who joined our congregation this year. We are so excited to have you.

From areas of relationships to finance, issues of health and areas of leadership, the hope for a New Beginning was indeed high on the hearts and minds of believers both young and old this year.

Last Sunday I preached on starting the race going in the right direction. Putting the past behind you by forgiving others and forgiving yourself.

Well now I am not in any way what you call the greatest practitioner of biblical numerology, but last year around this time, I remember doing a little research about the significance of the number nine (9).

What I found was actually very interesting. The number nine (9) literally means: to bring to an end. In fact, in one instance, I found that the number (9) means: to bring a judgment (or conclusion) to. I think I’ll repeat that one more time…

To bring to an end.
To bring to a conclusion.
To bring a judgement to.

Those aren’t exactly the kind of words people pack out a sanctuary or tear up a few pews in order to hear at the beginning of a new year. New Year phrases like ‘the year of divine favor,’ or ‘the year of a new beginning’ tend to have a better ring to them.

Now the number 10 gives reference to God. I see that my work for Him this year is of greater importance as we get closer to His return.
So this year, “God’s sovereignty does not excuse our apathy.”

While I realize we all are looking forward to a great harvest in 2010, please know that this harvest in many respects will be a result of the seeds we have sown throughout 2009. We must enter into the field of harvest with a heart to harvest that which has been sown.

2009 (for many of us) should have been a year to put an end to our excuses. A year that you and I should have ceased from blaming any oppressor (spiritual or natural) from hindering us from accomplishing the goals and dreams we set out for earlier this year.

2009 was not a year to be lazy. Or vulnerable. This year (for many of us) should have been a year that many of us for the first time in our lives became (sorry for the dirty word here)… responsible.

On tonight as we come together, be careful not to become too consumed with asking God (yet again) to begin some new things in your life, without examining the things He has also told you to do and bring to an end this year.

You still have a few hours left to cancel some of those credit cards you know you need to stop using. A few hours left to ‘unfriend’ that person you know God has told you to stop chatting with online. A few hours left to email that proposal you’ve been sitting on now for weeks to your boss.

In fact, there’s even a few hours to call that relative of yours you know God has told you to apologize to and mend the relationship. It may be tough to do, but it is time to get it done.

I realize there are a plethora of scriptures many of us will probably be given on tonight concerning what God may have in store for us next year, but I want to give you one that my wife and I have already taken on as a personal challenge for our family throughout 2010.

It’s a dangerous one, so please don’t write it down if you’re not prepared for it just yet.

“If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with the horses? And if in the land of peace, in which you trusted, they wearied you, then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan?” Jeremiah 12:5-6

Ladies and gentlemen, whether you and I are ready or not, 2010 is here. For many of us, this will be a year that many of the things we have prayed for throughout this year will come to pass. However, for those of us who are still holding on to things (and people) God has told us to get rid of, and for those of us who have allowed 2009 to be a year where our apathy and discontentment for where our lives are right now get the best of us, then what in the world are we going to do when the ‘horses’ arrive?

If God decides to bless you in 2010 with that ‘new job’ you’ve been asking for, are you prepared for it?

If God decides to bless your business or church with incredible growth in 2010, did you position yourself properly this year to receive it?

Or perhaps for some of you reading this today who are still waiting for God to send you a spouse, will you be able to identify him or her when they come, or is your focus still on holding on to those ‘safe alternatives’ from your past?

Family, enough is enough. No more excuses.
To be quite honest…I am tired of making them. And if you’re like me, tired of hearing them too.

The horses…are here!! SADDLE UP. God Bless, PJR
